Scotland's most romantic castle
Standing on a tiny islet at the meeting place of three lochs, under the stunning backdrop of the Kintail ranges, this ancient fortress has seen all the rich history of the Western Highlands. The family stronghold of the MacRae clan, it was completely restored over a twenty period by Lt-Col John MacRae-Gilstrap and opened to the public in 1932.
Now with a recently built Visitor Centre, Eilean Donan Castle is one of Scotland's premier attractions. You can explore almost every part of the castle, by yourself, or with the full assistance of Guides.
