From Edinburgh via Glencoe routes

 
1. From the centre of Edinburgh, head for the Newbridge roundabout by following Glasgow signs. Easiest route is straight on at Haymarket, with the station on the left, onto Corstophine Road, past Murrayfield Stadium on the left, then Edinburgh Zoo on the right, through Corstorphine High Street and straight on at the Drumbrae roundabout with PC World on the left. Continue on to the Maybury roundabout, going straight on to the Gogar roundabout. Continue straight on by the underpass onto the dual-carriageway Glasgow Road to the Newbridge roundabout.
2. At the Newbridge roundabout, take the fourth exit marked M9, for Stirling. After one mile, take the right hand lane and carry on to Stirling, past Grangemouth and Falkirk.
3. Continue on the motorway, skirting Stirling on your right.
4. Leave the motorway at junction 10, marked Crianlarich, and at the roundabout, take the first main exit onto the A84.
5. Head on past Blair Drummond Safari Park on the right and at the junction with the A873 from Port of Monteith bear right, still on the A84, onto Doune.
6. Go straight through Doune onto Callander. Pass through the village following signs for Crianlarich.
7. Still on the A84, pass the Falls of Leny, go through Strathyre and continue onto Lochearnhead.
8. Pass through Lochearnhead and bear left onto the A85, signed Crianlarich.
9. Climb up through Glen Ogle, and down to the junction with the A827 from Killin at Lix. Keep on the A85 and carry on to Crianlarich.
10. Pass through Crianlarich, leaving on the A82, following signs for Fort William and Oban.
11. Carry on to Tyndrum, bearing right at the junction with the A85 from Dalmally and Oban and continue on the A82, through Bridge of Orchy.
12. Continue over Rannoch Moor and through spectacular Glencoe, through Glencoe village and onto Ballachulish.
13. At the roundabout in Ballachulish (South), continue on the A82, over the bridge to Ballachulish (North) and on through Onich.
14. After Onich, pass the exit to the Conan Ferry and continue on the A82 to Fort William.
15. Pass through Fort William and leave on the A82, heading for Spean Bridge by following signs for Inverness.
16. Continue on to Spean Bridge.
17. Pass through Spean Bridge and turn left, still on the A82, at the junction marked Invergarry and Kyle of Lochalsh.
18. Head onto Invergarry, and in the village turn left onto the A87 at the junction marked Kyle of Lochalsh.
19. Continue on the A87 past Loch Garry and Loch Loyne. Head down to the junction with the A887 and turn left here, still on the A87, direction Kyle of Lochalsh. Continue past Loch Cluny and the Cluny Hotel, down through Glen Shiel, past Shiel Bridge, Inverinate and Dornie, with Eilean Donan Castle on your left.
20. After Dornie, continue onto Reraig and
    either: continue on the A87 until Kyle of Lochalsh. In Kyle, take the road marked Plockton. Continue on the mainly single track road to the village, taking a left rurn just after Duirinish at the bridge.
    or: shortly after Reraig, turn right onto the unclassified single track road marked Plockton, Scenic Route. Carry on through Balmacara. On the hill above Balmacara, turn right again at the junction, following the Plockton sign. Pass straight on over the bridge at Duirnish and continue on to Plockton.
  Route note:  The last route is shorter but at night or in bad conditions, or with a caravan or larger vehicle, it may be preferrable to take the longer route via Kyle.
