How To Get Here
Sitting on the east side of a sheltered promontory (ploc) at the seaward entrance to Loch Carron, Plockton is bounded on the north by the peninsula of Applecross, on the east by the unroaded tracts of Attadale and Glenaffric, on the south by Glenelg and the equally remote Knoydart, and on the west by the Isle of Skye.
Car
Once a remote community, Plockton is now only four hours drive from the population centres of Scotland's central belt, and less than two hours from the capital of the Highlands, Inverness.
In our car pages, we provide detailed route plans and all the information and links you need for a rapid and safe journey, including details on the Skye Bridge (toll-free) and the car ferry to Skye.
Rail
At the end of the nineteenth century, before the age of the motor car, the building of the world-famous Kyle of Lochalsh railway line ended the area's reliance on sea and track access. Three trains a day from Inverness make their way through Plockton Station on the famous Kyle Line.
