Government figures show spread lessening |
| The Government claim that the backlog of animals waiting to be slaughtered and carcasses waiting to be disposed of, is less than feared, because of a timelag in collecting information. In Cumbria, animals awaiting slaughter is said to be close to zero, and carcasses awaiting disposal, 10,000. The army commander in the region has recently said that slaughter was being achieved in less than 24 hours, and disposal in less than 48 hours. | |
| The figures also show a clear decrease in the number of new cases being reported daily. | |
| Leicestershire and Northamptonshire are declared officially free from FMD (after a total of four cases). | |
