Sewage Treatment Project

The new sewage treatment at the viewing platform was officially opened on Monday 25 June. Representatives from the Community Council, North of Scotland Water Authority (NOSWA) and the Scottish Parliament were present, along with many local people, pupils from the Primary and High Schools, and curious tourists.
Already the difference is apparent (the plant having been switched on a few days before). The bay is cleaner and gulls no longer congregate at the former outfall.
The new plant covers about 75% of the village. Stage 2 funding will now be sought, to include Cooper Street, Rhu and Camus an Arbhair.
The new water treatment plant at Achnanhinich is set to open at the end of August.
