West Highland Way opens completely |
| Pressure by local tourist interests has ensured that the West Highland Way, the 80-mile walk from Milngavie just outside Glasgow to Fort William, passing through Rannoch Moor, is now completely open. The landowner of the final stretch bowed to local business opinion, backed up by detailed risk assessment, and removed the 'Keep Out' signs. MacLeod of MacLeod, owner of the Black Cuillin range in Skye, remains unconvinced. | |
| Update: 4 May 2001 Access to the Black Cuillin range from Loch Coruisk is open, from the Mountain Rescue Station by the Sligachan Hotel is now open, and access from Glenbrittle Camp Site will be open within the week, it was announced by a spokesperson for MacLeod of MacLeod. | |
