16 March 2001	Pier pontoon takes next step
A public meeting has endorsed proposals to build a second pontoon at the main pier, to complement the existing one at the car park. A feasibility study by Mr John Porteous of Wallace Stone had confirmed suitability of the location. The proposal will go to Highland Council's Planning Committee in April, and, if approved, funding will be sought.
The proposed pontoon is similar to existing pontoons in Kyle of Lochalsh and Kyleakin, and will come under the management of the Kyle Harbourmaster.
The pontoon will be enable skippers to use the pier regardless of tidal conditions, and will benefit locals and visitors alike.
