The purpose of these pages is to tell you about the work and activities of the school. Roughly once a month we will present some short pieces about the life of the school.
We hope you enjoy these web pages, for year 2010–11.
Niall MacKinnon, Head Teacher
We all made instruments. First I got some coins and stuck them on the ice cream lid. On the shaker I got some beads and put them in the bottle. First I took the lid off. The tambourine made a high sound. The shaker made a medium and low sound. We all went to Glenelg Primary school with our instruments. We won a prize. It was fun doing it.

We went to Glenleg school. We were doing a project on sound. We had to make musical instruments for our homework. We brought them over and they did too. Theirs were really good. We then tried out our instruments together. We found out about a percussionist who is nearly completely deaf. She can do the drums by feeling. It was really exciting.
I went to the chemist and I got big wine boxes. I got some sweety wrapping paper. The things that are hanging down are beads. Inside my shaker is rice. I decorated it with sweetie wrapping paper and silver wrapping paper and elastic bands.
On Tuesday 15 March we went on a trip to Glenelg Primary school. We went on a minibus. It took us about an hour to get there. There was a lot of snow on the hills and roads. When we got there we had our lunch and then after lunch we all got together and showed our instruments that we had made. After that the teachers judged the instruments and the runner ups got a prize.

Every year Plockton Primary school makes an achievement in growing plants. We grow potatoes, sweet peas, leeks and other vegatables. If you buy our plants at our plant sales and if you think they are really tasty, it is because we grow them in our greenhouse. Our garden helper, Bob gives up his time and comes to the school.

Bob is teaching us about planting. Bob was teaching us about the vegetables. We put it in pots with compost. We put seeds in.
We were planting beans with Bob in the grassy pitch. There were also purple flowers called hyacinths.
Every Spring we plant bulbs with Bob our gardener. It is fun because he tells us about the plants and then we grown them. He lives in the village so he rides on his bike. We enter the Plockton show and it is so much fun.

Last Friday our school raised money for climate change in Guyana. We all dressed to represent water problems. Some pupils dressed in swimwear and wetsuits. We all did research on Guyana and posters about the country.

At school we did a UNICEF day. Everybody had to dress up to do with water. The winners were Finlay, Callum, Andrew, William, Ally, Andrew.
When we came in we went to the hall. We looked at everybody's costumes. We walked around in the circle. The teachers judged who had the best costumes. We were doing it for UNICEF to raise money because people in Guyana did not have enough money. It is wet and low lying. This is to help them build barriers to stop the water flooding and killing plants.
In Guyana at the moment it is hard to grow food because of the narrow strips of rich soil along the coast of the sea where they grow their food on. Agriculture is a hard thing for Guyana farmers because their fields are below the high tide level of the sea. There is also a lot of rainfall because of the El Nino. So the Government in Guyana has decided to build dams and drainage for the crops. Soon crops will hopefully be flood resistant. These crops could be submerged for up to 17 days.

This is us making lanterns from Santa's present.
What to do:
Fold a piece of thick paper.
When you've folded it you have to cut it.
It's fun. If you've done your work you can do them in class.

Christina got a fairy book and all you had to do was get a piece of paper, fold it in half, then cut half of the paper on the folded part. Then you opened it up. Then you made it into a round bit and stuck it together. And you could put glitter glue on it. And you had to cut a long strip of the paper out and stick it onto the top of the lantern for a handle. And then you had to hang them up to let them dry.

On Friday two people came into our school. It was a wood making workshop. We had lots of wood to start with. We had to measure the pieces of wood and then saw it. We glued the pieces of the shape of a pencil case and they drilled a hole in it. Then we hammered the holes in the wood. I had fun.

Some people came to Plockton on their holiday. They came into the school and said could we teach a woodwork lesson because we do that for a living. It was a husband and wife. We made pencil cases out of wood. At first he taught us how to saw with one piece of wood. Then we tried it. After that we started cutting all the wood to get it in the shape we wanted. After that we got the hammer and nails and put the wood together and hammered the nails on.

Ann and Mairearad came to our school to play some live music. Mairearad played the pipes and the accordion. Anna played banjo guitar and fiddle. It was really fun because they sang tons of songs and played loads of tunes. One song was called Sam the Skull and it was about a cat.

Air an 12mh de an Dùbhlachd bha sealladh taigh-cluich, Strange Face air an Dornaidh. Bha an sealladh mu dheìdhinn “A Christmas Carol” le Charles Dickens (bha e direach daoine a’ chosg aghaidhean-chomhaich). On the sixteenth of December Plockton Primary P1–7 went to see the three ghosts of Christmas. The actors were wearing masks. The masks had loads of detail. The play was very good and I enjoyed it.

At school the teachers got some pumpkins. We made some pumpkin soup. It tasted horrible.

We pulled the insides out of the pumpkin with a spoon. Then we got a hand blender stuck it all in a bowl and it went "zzzzzzzz". When it was cooked we all had to try it and it was the worst soup in the world.

We were making pumpkin soup. We were pulling the inside of the pumpkin out. Miss NicNeill brought the ingredients in. It was the worst soup ever. It tasted horrible. The whole school had to try it. Everyone said they hated it. But it was fun making it.
Today we did our Autumn harvest and Green Day. Everyone dressed up in the colour green or something to with the environment, or helping it. Andrew, Michael, Rebekkah and Finlay got a special mention. We picked carrots with Bob and we picked some funny ones. I had fun.
We picked some carrots, tomatoes, and beans. We dressed up as green. We picked potatoes.

Today we had an ecologically friendly Green Day and we had an Autumn harvest. We picked potatoes, carrots, tomatoes. Andrew accidently picked an onion. The carrots were really funny. Andrew had the funniest one. It looked like it was running away.

Today we harvested potatoes and other vegetables. We also had a Green Day. We all dressed in green. I was 'The Green Man' who lives in the wood. At the end of the day we will take the vegetables home. We will then eat them!
Today we had a Green Day. We all dressed up in green clothes. We had a parade and we did gardening and we picked potatoes, carrots, beans, tomatoes, and corn on the cob. It was really enjoyable. While we picked the potatoes we sang a Gaelic song: "Buntata againn sa gharradh". We had good fun.

We wove fish. We wove them out of willow.

This is Monique. She was doing willow weaving with us. We did fish but some did butterflies. We had fun with Monique. She was very nice too. It was very fun making butterflies and fish.

This is our willow hut. It is very colourful. It has grown a lot.

All the children were making a soup. The soup was vegetable soup. Some of the children were chopping.

This picture is of Rowan and Brighde blending the soup. We made the soup in school. We grew vegetables ourselves.

We made some soup from vegetables that we grew from our garden. Bob helps us make the vegetables. It is very fun growing stuff with him. I like growing vegetables with Bob. We got turns making the soup. I got a go too. We did it last year. It was very fun doing it this year just like last year.
