Under 14 7-a-side Football League
The two rounds of the Macquarrie Cup have just taken place. Thank you to our team for their commitment to playing on these two Saturdays and for joining in with our former pupils now in high school. The mixed 5-a-side competition last Saturday had to be postponed due to the very wet weather. It will now be held on an evening. June Sanderson will let us know.
Transition
P7 pupils are in High School this week as part of their transition programme. We wish them an enjoyable week. P1 entrants have been here on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Our pupils are really looking forward to their company. It will be good to have some P1s in the school again!
Events
An events programme was circulated last week. An updated version of this is now enclosed. Please note that the Edmund MacKenzie football competition date has been changed to 8 June at 5.30pm. There will also be Safe Highlander for P7s on 3 June. This is a busy term!
Parents Night
This will be held on Tuesday 16 June.
Curriculum for Excellence implementation: Parent Meeting
This week the final outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence are being sent to schools by Learning and Teaching Scotland, our national curriculum agency. These are the outline syllabus of the incoming curriculum.
More than ever before schools are being asked to put the curriculum place in an innovative fashion matching their own circumstances. A primary aim is to de-clutter and to deepen learning making it more relevant. There has been much guidance and reflective questions. Yet it is a bottom up initiative with schools being asked to bring the new outcomes to life rather than new set content to teach. The government says that this is the most far reaching change for Scottish education in a generation.
Just over a year ago at an earlier stage of this development we held a parents’ consultation evening. We would now like to hold another consultation evening about how we as a school community may take the school forward in the light of this new framework.
We were also inspected in the year and this thus provides a good moment to take stock of the incoming curriculum and where we are at, to take forward the school’s future direction. We want your views as parents and therefore would like to invite you to a consultation meeting Thursday 25 June at 6.00pm. The school has invited John Ritchie, Area Education Manager to attend.
Inter School Sports For P4–P7
This was held on Tuesday 19 May at Plockton High School. We came second in our school category. Well done
Coffee Morning
This raised £316.08 Thank you for all those who helped and baked.
Cycling
June Sanderson is organising cycling proficiency training for children who are interested. This would be over four sessions but would not be able to go ahead without a helper. Would any parent be prepared to help? No dates set for this yet.
Golf P5
P5 pupils enjoyed their training in golf with sport coordinator June Sanderson.
Safe Highlander
This will be held on Wednesday 3 June for P7 pupils.
Gaelic Drama
The Gaelic medium class will be performing their play ‘Dalek Loch Aillse' at the Aros Centre in Portree on Thursday 28th May. This will be along with the other plays being promoted in other Gaelic medium classes in Skye and Lochalsh. The performance begins at 7.00pm.
School Trips
We are going on two school trips this year. On Wednesday 10 June we will be going on a trip to Staffin to look at crofting and also to visit the dinosaur museum.
On Thursday 18 June we will be going on a trip to Glenelg where we will visit the brochs and look at the barracks as well as some fun at the Lamont holiday chalets.
The Reaper and Am Bata
P5 to P7 visited a traditional Fifie sailing herring drifter which came to Kyle last Wednesday and also visited Am Bata, the Plockton High School boat building project. This was very interesting for pupils, seeing and going on board a fully kitted out traditional herring sailing vessel, and visiting a local boat-building project from a local design.
Garden
New planting for garden is well underway. Seedlings were raised and sold at the school’s plant fair. We raised £123.55.
Virtual Gallery DVD
As part of ‘Homecoming 2009’ the school took part in the virtual DVD initiative and submitted artwork for this virtual display. We are delighted that the work of some of our pupils was selected to form part of the virtual gallery. It has been published on DVD and the work was displayed as a virtual gallery at various locations. The successful pupils were: Brighde Rankin, Matthew Grimmer, Amelia Dobson, James MacLeod, Megan MacLeod. Successful entrants receive a complimentary DVD.
Shinty
There is no shinty this term. We are very grateful to our shinty helpers and this will resume in the autumn term.
