Jewel of the Highlands

The front of Plockton Shores shop and restaurant

The local shop, Plockton Shores is small but well-stocked and they have an excellent selection of wines and whiskies. There is a large co-op supermarket in Kyle five miles away for a wider range of provisions. There are shops in Kyle for fresh baked goods and a first rate butcher’s shop. The butcher stocks Aberdeen Angus beef and the best Scottish haggis in Scotland which comes from Dingwall.

The local paper shop in Plockton stocks all the major tabloid, broadsheet newspapers and magazines and also a selection of gift items and cards. Plockton has its own artist’s gallery, the Studio, which has an extensive range of gifts, cards, art work and local jewellery.

The Plockton Post Office is near the Old Pier. Opening times vary in winter and in summer. There is also internet access at library in the Village Hall.

Fresh fish and prawns can be purchased at the Old Pier when the local boats come in at around 3 p.m. A fish van comes to the village every week and carries a large selection of fresh and smoked fish. A Butchers van comes to the village on Wednesday and sells outstanding Aberdeen Angus beef and local lamb.

West Highland Dairy

West Highland Dairy is based in the village of Achmore by Kyle of Lochalsh in the Scottish Highlands.

The dairy was established in 1987 and we have taught a great number of prospective cheese makers during the last 20 years as well as managing our own small commercial dairy business. However, we have recently decided to change direction with our business and now intend to concentrate mainly on running our dairy training courses whilst opening our shop on a limited basis for the sale of ice cream and other dairy products made by students.
